Lisa Hutchins 8/3/2015 Graduate Admissions Personal Statement I have always been passionate about how society and social stratification affects our daily lives. I believe these issues are relevant to everyone, in everyday life, and sociology affects everyone on a personal level. When I was an undergraduate student, I had a professor that opened up my mind to the study of sociology. It was at that time, that I decided, I loved the subject so much that I wanted to someday teach it on a post-secondary level. It is a subject that has broadened my horizons, and made me question the ways in which I view society, not only here, but abroad, in other countries. If I could bring that passion to just one of my students, who knows what a†¦show more content†¦Even though Hawaii is part of the United States, their culture is in some ways very different from the culture you find on the main land. I hope that someday, I will be able to help other students see and understand these differences also. If studying sociology can broaden the horizons of others and help them learn tolerance of different beliefs, not only here, but in other parts of the world, there may be hope for moving toward a peaceful existence with one another. Most of all, by studying sociology at Arizona State University, I hope to attain a more tolerant attitude toward the people around me, and better understand the dynamic range of all cultures and societies. Online degrees really give students the ability to study at their own pace and fit educational development around work and home commitments. As an Arizona State University employee, I have daytime commitments to my department that do not allow me to be a traditional on-campus student. Being able to study sociology online will allow me to use my time outside of work, in the evenings and on weekends, to study. Online studies give mature students the means to continue their education around other demands of their personal life. I understand that the Online Master’s Degree in Sociology is an online course of study and that I will not be able to take in-person classes. I understand that the online degree is set up in a way that maps out what classes I should take and when I should take them. A

Introduction I am writing my essay on the leadership styles between Jack and Ralph, which will explore the autocratic and democratic political systems in which they are dedicated to follow. Also explore the possible motives behind these two leaders rise to power, yet explain why leaders will need advisers for resources, for control and sustainably of the community. Lastly faults of their rule and how they could’ve rewritten the course of history on the inland, and deliver my hypothesis on what is the fate of Jack’s tribe. On July 6, 1991, nearly 7,000 thrashing headbangers and metal fans gathered at Great Woods to be treated to one of the loudest and memorable tours in history, the Clash of the Titans. For about four hours, thousands of fans rocked to the music of four bands, Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth, and opening act, Alice in Chains, all of which cranked out a tremendous dose of ear-splitting no-holds-barred heavy metal. Alice in Chains took the stage first and ripped into several songs from their debut album Facelift. However, it was their smash radio hit, Man in the Box to which the crowd roared and jumped up to sing along. The band lacked lighting effects and scenery, but this did not affect the hard-hitting music. As an opening act, Alice in Chains performed a satisfactory show, whetting the crowds appetite for what was to follow. The first Titan, Megadeth, was by far the best band of the evening. One of the favorable points of the Anthrax set was the variety of songs, from the rap-like Im the Man to the high-spirited fun-fest of Indians. On rhythm guitar, Scott Ian delivered a powerful crunch attack over which Belladonna shrieked his smart, political lyrics. Anthrax spiced up their set list by playing new tunes from their recent album, Persistence of Time. After the show, I happened to be lucky enough to meet Megadeth backstage with several of my friends. Unlike many stuck-up rock stars, the members of Megadeth were very nice, down-to-earth people. They spent their time signing autographs and having their pictures taken with fans, pausing to answer a fans questions. In a conversation with bassist David Ellefson, he explained that he has been playing for 15 years, and that his first experience sky-diving was very exciting. The adventurous Dave Mustaine spoke about his interests in sky-diving, bungee jumping, and even alligator wrestling. Drummer Nick Menza autographed a drumstick one of my friends had caught, while guitarist Marty Friedman mingled with the backstage crowd. The three Titans of heavy metal clashed at Great Woods, but in the end, all of the bands proved to be the true Titans of their own respective sounds.
